KHPOA Team Visits Nakuru College of Health Sciences and Management: Strengthening Standards in Health Training

Nakuru College of Health Sciences and Management was honoured to host a delegation from the Kenya Health Professional Oversight Authority (KHPOA), a national body mandated to strengthen quality, accountability, and integrity within Kenya’s health sector. The visit reaffirmed our position as a well-prepared institution committed to training competent, ethical, and market-ready professionals across nursing, health, social, and applied sciences.

Understanding the Role of KHPOA

KHPOA plays a critical role in ensuring that health training institutions operate within approved standards. Its mandate focuses on:

  • Strengthening oversight across health professional regulatory bodies
  • Promoting quality and uniformity in health training
  • Safeguarding public interest through ethical and accountable practice

The visit provided an opportunity to assess our readiness, infrastructure, and academic standards in line with national expectations.

Demonstrating Institutional Readiness and Capacity

During the visit, the KHPOA team toured our modern Skills Laboratory, a key facility supporting practical training in nursing and health sciences. The lab is designed to closely mirror real clinical environments, ensuring students graduate with hands-on competence and confidence.

The institution is well-equipped to support training across multiple disciplines through:

  • A well-equipped skills lab with modern medical models and simulation equipment
  • Practical learning spaces tailored for nursing, community health, and applied sciences
  • Structured training programs aligned with regulatory and industry standards
  • Qualified and experienced faculty committed to competency-based learning

These facilities enable students to safely practise procedures, refine clinical skills, and transition smoothly into real-world healthcare settings.

Strengthening Training in Social and Applied Sciences

Beyond clinical training, the institution continues to invest in strong foundations for social and applied sciences. Our programs emphasize:

  • Community-centered approaches to health and social development
  • Ethical practice, professionalism, and accountability
  • Practical skills that address real societal and healthcare challenges

This integrated approach ensures our graduates are not only technically skilled but also socially responsive and adaptable.

Our Commitment to Quality and Continuous Improvement

The KHPOA visit reaffirmed our commitment to maintaining high standards in training, governance, and student support. We remain focused on continuous improvement through:

  • Regular infrastructure upgrades
  • Curriculum alignment with regulatory bodies
  • Strong partnerships with oversight authorities and industry stakeholders

We appreciate KHPOA for their guidance and constructive engagement. With modern facilities, dedicated staff, and a learner-centered environment, Nakuru College of Health Sciences and Management remains fully prepared to produce competent professionals who will positively impact Kenya’s healthcare and social development sectors.
